The new Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2022 has been signed into law by President Michael D Higgins but what does it mean to your business?
As a result of the pandemic, many workforces were forced home meaning a headache for many HR and procurement teams in businesses across Ireland. This new piece of legislation means that even the pandemic is essentially over, home working is here to stay for the vast majority of businesses.
Looking at the legislation, which you can find here, there are some key points in terms of the amount of time you have to ensure your workers home working environments are safe and productive which is your legal responsibility.
The legislation states that your employees have the right to request home working as long as they give you eight weeks notice from the start date of said home working arrangement.
They must give you the location of said home working this means Homedeskr can help ensure the right equipment is in place for this given the notice period above. Homedeskr can also provide you with the assurances and documents to show the equipment has been correctly installed and the staff member has had the correct instructions and assessments.
As an employer you must respond to any request from your employees no later than four weeks from their submitted request.
